When we go on overnight hiking or camping trips we always sleep in our hammocks. The Chillax Hammock is our favorite because it is comfortable, very lightweight, affordable and super simple to set up. All you need to do is find a couple trees to great sleep in your hammock.
Sanuks are the perfect shoe to slip on after a long day of hiking. They provide the comfort of a sandal, the look of a shoe, and enough stability to go on a short walk over any terrain. They are very lightweight and take up minimal space in your backpack.
Whether we’re kayaking, canoeing, or hiking in a rainy place, we always bring along a SealLine Dry Bag to keep our things from getting wet. Our SealLine Dry Bag has never failed us and has kept valuable camera equipment dry in the rainiest conditions. The roll top closure ensures a watertight seal and the heavy-duty vinyl material lining makes SealLine the brand to go with.
The Gregory z40 backpack is an awesome hiking backpack with plenty of room when packing for longer multi-day adventures. Some of our favorite features are the ventilated EVA foam on the shoulder harness’ and hip belt, the top-loading main compartment with a quick draw closure, and the removable top pocket. This backpack has all the straps and buckles you’ll need, is durable, and comes at a very reasonable price.
Nothing can improve your hiking experience as much as proper footwear. Keeping your feet dry and comfortable are the most important aspects to consider when searching for a pair of hiking shoes. Merrell is our favorite brand of hiking shoe and the Moab FST Waterproof shoe has dry seal technology that helps moisture escape while keeping your feet dry. It also has air cushioning in the heel to absorb shock and a Vibram MegaGrip outsole to provide the perfect combination of traction and durability on both wet and dry surfaces.
At ETA we’re always on the move, while trying to capture every moment on camera. The EVO Gimbal allows us to take smooth high-quality footage, and is lightweight and portable enough for us to carry on our wildest adventures. It is durable enough to throw in a bag on the go, and the battery life has never been an issue for us, even on overnight hikes.
The GoPro Hero 5 is the most advanced GoPro to date. We use the GoPro 5 because it provides amazing video quality and is small and convenient to travel with. The new GoPro 5 has a 2-inch touch display, voice control, and is waterproof up to 33ft. Technology continuously amazes us, and GoPro is always at the forefront of innovation. If you’re in the market for a camera, the GoPro brand is well worth your money. Hit the link.
Although the Panasonic Lumix GX85 is larger in size than our GoPro, the performance of this camera is unreal. The image quality is stunningly crisp and there are so many features that we are still learning how to use the camera to its full potential. You can take 4K ultra HD movies, capture high resolution images up to 4592 x 3448 pixels, and even connect your smartphone to its built in Wi-Fi to remotely control shooting and playback functions. This camera has it all and has taken our photos and videos up to a new level.
Here at ETA, a lot of our time is spent editing hours of raw footage from our cameras into 2-4 minute YouTube videos. That magic happens on an Apple 13″ MacBook Pro. We use two programs for all of our photo and video editing, ‘Adobe Lightroom’ and ‘Final Cut Pro’. The MacBook’s easy to navigate, user friendly interface, makes the task of condensing all of our footage a lot simpler. We would highly recommend a MacBook Pro if you’re in the market for a laptop.
Battery life is always a consideration when we are on road trips filming overnight hikes. Finding time to recharge our electronics can be challenging so we always carry spare batteries. There is nothing worse than running out of batteries midway through an amazing adventure. Extra GoPro batteries are reasonably affordable and carrying a few backups is essential. The GoPro Jaws comes in handy when you need to mount your camera in a hurry. It is versatile enough to clamp to virtually anything, and is flexible enough to angle your camera to get the perfect shot. We don’t have a cameraman following us around so mounting our GoPro is how we can get both of us in the same shot.
The GorillaPod Action Tripod is one of our most used GoPro accessories. It is the perfect mount for taking a time-lapse or setting up the camera to take a longer video shot. The rubberized foot pads keep it stable on any surface and its flexible, wrappable legs make it very adaptable to a variety of settings. Check out the link for this essential GoPro accessory.
